Salvatore Alaimo, PhD has worked for 10 years in nonpofit organizations, including 5 as the internal evaluator of the Girl Scout Council of Northwest Georgia. He also has consulted with nonprofits for 10 years specializing in evaluation, strategic planning and volunteer management for clients such as the University of Georgia, Latin American Association, Georgia Career Development Association, International Rescue Committee and others. Salvatore has Ph.D. in Philanthropic Studies from Indiana University and a M.S. degree in Urban Studies/Nonprofit Management from Georgia State University. He is also a graduate of the United Way VIP board training program and Leadership DeKalb. Salvatore has previously served the Atlanta Area Evaluation Association as chair of the Professional Development Committee and the Community-based Organization Evaluation Capacity Building special interest group.
Bina Jayapaul-Philip, PhD is a Health Scientist in the Division of Diabetes Translation at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In this role, she provides evaluation expertise to national and state programs. She has worked as an evaluation and research specialist on various federal and state projects in a variety of public health fields. Bina also has several years of work experience with state level public health programs related to performance measurement, monitoring and evaluation. She has served as the Coordinator for AaEA’s International Evaluation Special Interest Group and as Secretary.
Mark Rivera, PhD received his doctorate in Experimental Psychology (Social Cognition) from DePaul University. From, 2004-2008, as a Senior Fellow and then as a Health Scientist, he provided consultation in the areas of evaluation and performance measurement to state-level diabetes prevention an control programs. In May 2008, he joined the Division of Adult and Community Health where his primary focus is the evaluation of Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH US), a national public health effort. Prior to joining CDC, Mark conducted evaluations from 1997-2004 in the Applied Research Center and Georgia Health Policy Centers located in the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University. He has published in the areas of evaluation and performance measurement and is an AAEA founding committee member and past officer.
Evalina Weidman Sterling, PhD Evelina Weidman Sterling holds a master’s degree in public health from the Johns Hopkins University and a PhD in medical sociology from Georgia State University. She is also a certified health education specialist (CHES) and has earned a certificate in non-profit management from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Evelina has over 15 years of experience working in public health, mainly in the areas of health education and program evaluation. Previous experience includes positions with the American Association for Health Education, the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Gallaudet University, and the American Heart Association. Currently, Evelina works as an independent public health consultant assisting non-profit organizations, for-profit companies, academic institutions, and government agencies with all aspects of health education program planning, implementation, and evaluation. In addition, Evelina is the author of several consumer health books focusing on reproductive health, including Living with PCOS (Addicus Books, 2000); Having Your Baby through Egg Donation (Perspectives Press, 2005); Budgeting for Infertility: How to Bring Home a Baby without Breaking the Bank (Simon & Schuster, 2009); and Before Your Time: The Guide to Living Well with Early Menopause (Simon & Schuster, 2010).
Judy Gibson, MSN, RN is the nurse consultant in the Division of Tuberculosis Elimination at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). She has more than 30 years experience in public health nursing, with 27 years experience in the field of TB Prevention and Control. She joined the CDC in 1991 after 12 years as TB program manager in Dallas County Health Department, Dallas, Texas. Her interest in evaluation stems from the need to articulate the public health nursing role in implementation and support of public health and CDC-funded TB programs by promoting development of an evidence base for public health nursing practice. She serves AaEA as co-chair of the Finance Committee.
